The Iliad, by Homer

This book is being read and responded to by Vana Quichocho.
I happened to know that this book is a classic and an important part of modern literature. The Iliad is considered wonderful material for college students. While reading this book, I hope to understand and discover the story of the Iliad. Also, I hope to broaden my vocabulary. Homer's style isn't widely used in common literature, so I hope that I can adapt to it well and understand this work and others like it, better. Many people might consider works like these to be "boring," but seeing how it is a classic which helped to shape modern literature, it must be a wonderful story. I have never read books quite like this one, but I am rather fond of new things. I hope I enjoy it.

  1. Vana, this is a great choice. I suggest you find out about the structure and elements of the classical epic and the characteristics of the epic hero (as opposed to the romantic or tragic hero) before you get into the thick of this long narrative poem. Your understanding will be greatly enhanced. Happy reading!
