Follow the L O G O S ;)

Let's think deductively for a moment.  The argument presented by Robert Burns, by means of his speaker, could be easily broken down, as the following syllogism shows in relation to OMM:
MAJOR PREMISE:  Humans are bound to be haunted by their hindsight (what happened in the past) and foresight (the ability to project what is going to happen in the future) while animals live only in the moment/present.
Minor Premise: The protagonists of OMM are two men.
CONCLUSION: Therefore, they are bound to be haunted by their past actions and their perspective of the future.
Follow this logic as you read, analyze the piece, and comment on the argument Steinbeck wanted to make via this work.

  1. Oh! This is seems like a more efficient and logical way to go through the book! Thanks for the suggestion Mrs. Griffin!

  2. Yay! I finally commented!Well, on the conclusion portion of your post Mrs. Griffin it says, "Therefore, they are bound to be haunted by their past actions and their perspective of the future." You know how in the book Lennie cannot quite remember things all that great. Maybe in a sense Lennie is also like a mouse because he doesn't really have the logic to look back without being reminded every so often. As George on the other hand, is face with not only the burdens of his actions, but also the burdens of Lennie's actions. George also knows that in the future if anything were to go wrong he would be capable of knowing what to do in the situation.

  3. Oh yes :) And considering that humans have this instinct, it does have an effect on the plot of the story and what goes through the minds of the characters, which leads to how they carry themselves, their words/actions, and how we portray them and the part they play in the storyline.
